Installing Enlightenment (E17) onto Lenny
Hello, I've just recently starting using Debian (I'd previously been using Fedora), and I'd like to install Enlightenment. I've seen several guides for this, but all the ones I've tried so far either seem outdated or won't work.
So I wanted to know if anyone could explain to me how to install E17. The closest I've gotten is with the Easy_17 shell script, but I could find the libxml-2.0 package which was a dependency. If it helps, I'm using an EeePC 900HD netbook with kernel version 2.6.30. If any more specific info is needed, I'll reply quickly Thanks |
I used to use that script. Worked fine for me. The package you are probably looking for is libxml2-dev
There are various deb packages floating around but their quality, dependencies and age may not match your or your systems requirements. Others may comment on specific packages: I've not used them. Cheers, Evo2. |

a bit more of info about installing it from the enlightenment-repo is to be found here: http://sidux.com/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-...ghtenment.html should be a no-brainer. The install from OzOs is an installation from source. The last times i did it it worked like a charme. The advantage is: you may backup your existing and running e17, upgrade the version to the newest, if it is screwed you may recover from the backup. If you got questions about the Ozos-way ask at their forum (as i cant help you with that...) Its an modified easy_e17.sh There is also the alpha-gemini-repo: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=38422 but i think with the enlightenment-repo is obsolete. good luck and "ride the lightening" :) |
Thanks for the replies.
You're right, libxml2-dev was the package I was looking for, now my only problem with easy_e17 is that it stops running when it starts installing the packages for 'entrance'. I can't think of a reason why it would stop, though If I can't get this script to work, I'll try the other one that was suggested by j1alu |

I always just disabled it: Code:
easy_e17.sh --skip=entrance,entrance_edit_gui Cheers, Evo2. |
i prefer the repo version. i can`t see a difference in bleeding-edge, and it installs in less than five minutes.

Well, thanks to both of you I've successfully compiled it. But one more thing (sorry): How do I log into an Enlightenment session? It gave me some instructions at the end of the script, but it didn't make much sense.

Thank you very much, I now have Enlightenment up and running, and it is GREAT
This thread is done, now, I suppose |
