Installing debian without bootable cd
 

I am trying to install debian 3.0 with the 2.4 kernel on a machine that doesn't boot from cd-rom. I am using the loadlin.exe but it gives an error when i use the 2.4 kernel.

I want the try to install it form boot floppy's but i don't know wich files I have to use. :confused: And in wich order I have to use them when booting.

I searched the debian site but they are only how to's on the 2.2 kernel. :mad:

Meaby somebody has experience with this?

Here is how to solve the issue
Boot to windows
insert an empty, formatted floppy disk and the Debian CD
Open a DOS Window, open the /tools directory on the CD.
The rawrite1 and rawrite2 programs can be used under MS-DOS
The rwwrtwin program runs on Windows 95, NT, 98, 2000, ME, XP and probably later versions. To use it you will need to unpack diskio.dll in the same directory.

then
d: (considering D: is ur CD drive)
cd tools\
rawrite1.exe
The boot floppy will be created (with the Kernel in your CD)- now boot from the floppy and start installation
happy installing :)

PS: i have never used rawrite1.exe in debain but i guess it would be the same like other distros

Firts of all, I need to give the image to write. So i use rescue.bin (it's the only one who will boot).

Second when it boots I get almost the same boot screen as from the cd only i can't select the kernel and it wants floppy's. The say i can install from other media such as cd or hd but it doesn't say how? :confused:

Thanks I found it already! I had to download the right RESCUE.BIN and ROOT.BIN here:

then boot the rescue.bin->type linux enter then it asked for the root.bin. And then you get in the installation menu for the 2.4 kernel. In the installation menu you can choice wich installation medium you want to use. So I selected CDROM, and everything went fine!

Just to let you know...

I just recently had the same problem. I solved it with this from www.bootdisk.com this is a no-ram drive DOS bootdisk with cdrom drivers. No-RAM Drive Boot Disk - DOS

Once it boots and loads drivers for the cd-rom, you can go to the cd-rom (D: for example)
Open the "install" directory and execute setup...if your are using Woody disk one...

I haven't tried it with others.

Just thought I would through that out there.
