Installing Apps


I'm installing stuff using the Synaptic package manager and its not showing up. I must of installed everything to do with Alsa also ClamAV i can't find KDE anywhere so i can't set up Kmail, infact i cant find anything to do with e-mail.
A few other bits and pieces like some app thats compatible with MSN that i installed i cant find that anywhere.

I assume that you must be using Gnome as your default desktop than correct?? You should just be using apt-get for installations... it's easier.. providing you know the name of the package you want to install...

i.e. "apt-get update" then "apt-get dist-upgrade"

and that will update your entire system to the latest versions of all installed applications...




If you are installing applications and they're not showing up in the menu... try to run the application from terminal... i.e. "mozilla" or "xchat" or whatever...
