installed kernel type

I did the netinstall and it decided to give me a 2.6.15 486 kernel, however I have a 686 machine, a 2.6 celeron. Would it be a good idea if I was to install the 686 version and remove the 486 version if 686 functions correctly. Or am I not really gaianing any benifits from using the 686 kernel?

Also ima ssuming im doing no harm using a 486 kernel, i just dont have as much an optimized kernel for my processor correct?

The default kernel should be fine. After install you can use synaptic or apt/aptitude to install the linux-image-<your kernel-686> if you want.

but i wont be gaining any speed increase id notice from using the 686 version over the 486 version?
