Installation problems on IA64 (No Keyboard, Serial console not working)

Hi.

I'd like to give debian 7.0.11 a shot on my SGI Prism. Its an Itanium2 machine, hence i need to install IA64 debian. The latest supported release is 7.0.11, because the later dists dropped support.

My problem is that i can't get the keyboard working. KB/Mouse and HDDs are on a special IO card, SGIIOC4, and i think the module isn't loaded on boot, or even missing.

First question: How do i get the sgiioc4 module loaded with a boot parameter for the cdrom?

You see in the following output that i gave the command line the option "sgiioc4", but that doesnt do anything it seems.

I thought maybe i should give it a shot installing using the serial console, so i can give the following boot parameters:

Code:
install console=ttyS0,38400n8
I get output on the console, but it stops at some point, not showing anything more on the console. When i look at the screen attached to the prism, i get the welcome screen for the installation, but my serial console is standing still, and i have no chance to interact with the installation.

Serial output:

Code:
Uncompressing Linux... done
Loading file \initrd.gz...done

At the point where it says "console [tty0] enabled", it shows the welcome screen on the screen of the prism.

So the second question is: How can i install using the serial console?

Debian 6.0.10 works and can be booted with keyboard and mouse support, but it fails at some point, saying the debian mirrors dont have any packages to download. I tried in the past to install 6.0.10, and then upgrade to 7.0.11. But that didn't boot anymore, and i gave up eventually.

If anything fails: What else can i try to get it installed?
