installation of debian program into R.H. style distro
Hey
<DDDQ> Darn Dumb Debian Question .... if you have in one hand a Debian Installation file for a little program you have been looking for (in this case Chinese Chess in a GUI) ... and you want to put it into a SUSE 8.0 or Mandrake 9.0 OS ... what should you do? </DDDQ> Cheers. |

From the dearth of replies, I assume that the two data-packages are completely inseparable, and one cannot be used to install into the other.
.. ... .... OK ... that's how luck goes then .. Cheers! |
Two choices.
Search some more for either a software package for your distribution, or source code. Or just give the package a try. Both Debian and Slackware have the RPM package manager available should someone want to attempt to install an RPM package. You would need to find the best way to install a Deb package. Does anyone use the Alien program anymore? |
I've used Alien to change a rpm to a deb successfully, so I imagine it will change a deb to an rpm easily.

Same here. I've used alien to change from rpm to deb. Worked a treat. Nver done it the other way, though.
