Installation
OK. I'm completly new to Linux. I just got Mandrake 10.0 working. Now I'm interested in trying Debian. I'm confused by all of the files I see on www.linuxiso.org. Do I burn all of the ISOs to a DVD or how do I work that out? Any advice would be great! Thanks.

You burn each CD iso to an individual CD, and then install it like Mandrake
|
hum ... Im all out of CD-Rs ... it would work burning to all ISOs to a DVD at once? Should I just use a DVD?

You can download the full stable release on DVD using Jigdo
There is a howto on that site. The DVD release consists of 2 DVDs, but I think you only need the first one to do a normal installation. You can get other packages from the Internet using the apt system. |

Just burn the first CD and install it from the NET if you have broadband.

My problem is that I don't have any blank CD-R's ... Just DVDR

Hello!!!!! I never saw your post so just calm down!
How am I supposed to download? Each file is only like 800KB I'm confused. |
I followed the jigdo link and read quickly. Seems you'll need to get the jigdo app and use that to download the dvd images.
Go here: http://atterer.net/jigdo/ to download jigdo for your OS and install it. Then go here: http://www.debian.org/CD/jigdo-cd/ and read the "How to download an image with jigdo" section. As for the size of each file...read this: Quote:
Hope that helps. |

I didn't mean to sound rude. I'm pretty stressed out because I have to finish my Master Thesis within 2 weeks. :D

It's cool! I totally understand. Good luck!
