Install Sarge on ASUS A7V333 (PDC20276)

I would like to install Debian Sarge on my Computer with a ASUS A7V333 which is using the Promise RAID Controller (20276). I have an existing Windows XP Installation on RAID0 Stripe with two 80 GB WD Harddisks.

Now i probably found a driver matching my device:
promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=88&category=driver&os=4

My Question is: how can i use this driver so that i'm able to install debian sarge with the installer? so that the debian installer recognizes not two single harddiskes but 1 stripe at 160gb.

thanks alot & greetings from switzerland

A7V333 PDC20276

Hi bck

I have found some instructions that allow installation of woody on a 2.4.21 kernel:-

http://colby.tjs.org/~brendandg/prom...wto/howto.html
http://ttul.org/~rrsadler/linux-promise/
http://www.debianhelp.org/modules.ph...rticle&sid=808

The second one worked for me, I think there is not a lot of support for this chipset because it is proprietary
and actually not very good. You probably won't find many people to advice a RAID 0 configuration but, it has some
merit in RAID1.
If you want to dual boot with M$ I'd suggest you boot with the bf2.4 floppies partition the disk, abort the debian install;
Install M$ , then restart your debian installation; I upgraded to sarge as quickly as I could as well as installing grub which
is a big improvement over the faulty lilo configuration I had to start with. And keep a back up of your array because it *WILL* fail
at some point.
