Question INIT: PANIC: segmentation violation

Hello,

I have a Server with Debian Sarge and i recompiled the kernel (2.6.20.1) to include support for 64 GB High Memory. After reboot i get this error:

INIT: PANIC: segmentation violation! sleeping for 30 seconds.

If I compile the kernel only with 4 GB High Memory Support it works fine but not with 64 GB. The Problem is that I have 6 GB memory so I need this option.

Do you have any ideas what I could do?

Any help would be apreciated!

OK, I tried with the version 2.6.21-rc2 and it works. But I'm somewhat afraid to use an RC version because i want my server 100% stable and not to run into other problems.

What do you think would it be OK to use this version?

Well... one thing to do with the RC version is to look at the changelog and see if there is anything that was changed between the stable kernel and this one that involves things that you use, aside from the obvious high memory fix.

Last time, 6 rc were made by linus.
So expect that there will be others that will correct things...
On the other side, release candidate are the more stable after the release.
