Question IBM Thinkpad 600 & Sarge & startx

Hi!!!
I've installed a Debian Sarge on a Thinkpad 600 notebook computer, and modified /etc/pcmcia/config.opts to support a 3Com Network/Modem card.
I fighted against the network card, the sound card, etc.
Now I'm trying to configure the Xserver, so Iinstalled the x-window-system-core, x-window-system, xserver-common, xserver-xfree86, xfonts***, and a lot of other .deb packages, but every time I run startx, the same message appears:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

Any idea on how to win this new fight?

Thanks a lot in advance for your attention.

HeCSa.

This most likely is a hardware issue, such as a setting for the video card or monitor resolution.

To get it going, you will most likely need to know the monitor's horizontal and vertical resolutions.

look at xfree log in /var/log and look at your ~/.xsession-errors file.

All you needed to install was x-window-system.

As BittaBrotha said, do a

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

if you don't know anything about your video card, monitor vert and horiz frequencies, your mouse or what resolution is good for your lappy,

at the console do a 'su' become root, and install

#apt-get install discover mdetect read-edid
