Strange error message. Might suggest that the iso is faulty. Do the checksums match?

Yes and the md5sum on the .iso. also where did you download the .iso from so others can test if needed. I use the business card to install Sid or Wheezy. http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/

If that fails then install Squeeze then upgrade to Wheezy. This is best done in steps with apt being first then the kernel then the rest.

The test was always ok

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/we...s/i386/iso-cd/

this is iso(debian-testing-i386-CD-1.iso)

I always tend to be installed this...contains all the programs usually use

i had try...but it seems there have been problems with dependencies(but I may be wrong to change the sources.list) I have never done this before :(

In this case I recommend Stable/Squeeze. :)

There is no need to reinstall Debian from scratch in order to switch to Xfce.

What reasons do you have for running the testing distribution?

fingers99 11-25-2011 10:53 AM

Yes. With no working apt, you're in a lot of trouble and I see no easy way out.

I'm really not sure why you chose to do it that way. Why not (from your working version and as root):
Code:

apt-get update && apt-get install xfce
?

The full Xfce meta-package is "xfce4".

If apt is playing up at install time it's usually a network or repository problem, but occasionally the testing installer can be broken. I always tend to install a minimal stable first and then just upgrade to testing or unstable.
