I am trying to convice someone into Debian
But how can I find out what does one or the other CD contains when I'm on line?
I want to recomand a minimum set of CDs but is for a PC not connected to the i-net. So I need Gnome, KDE, a few wm(if possible) mc, samba and a DHCP cilent (not that necessary). I know that he will use just one of the two before but I want him to see that debian is still flexible with 2 or 3 CDs. ;) |
Hmmm... I would really recommend all CDs. You just never know what that person will want to install. I'd probably recommend CDs 1-4 if you absolutely HAVE to get a minimum set.

He will only need the things I mentioned above : mc, gnome or KDE, samba and a nice wm ( I was thinking about fluxbox or something like that ).

Debian is the core of some of the better known live CD's like Knoppix. Maybe using that as a starting point (it has Gnome/KDE, quite a bit of networking...) and then going from there would be an option?

Does knoppix have apt-get?

Looking at the 'sources' and then to the 'packages.gz' list, it would surely seem so.. I've seen it mentioned this is a great way for a Debian install as it's all graphical, all hardware is already taken care of, and it jumps you in with the latest and greatest gear.
