HP ProLiant ML 330 G3 / MegaIDE and Woody

Hi all,

has anybody a working megaide.o module for 2.4.18-bf24 (for use on a driver disk)?

I'm trying to install Woody on a HP ProLiant ML 330 G3 with the onboard MegaRAID ATA 133-2 (aka MegaIDE) and it would be great if I wouldn't need to install Redhat or Suse and then debootstrap, as suggested in a thread on the debian-isp list.

Or are there any other ways to make the ML 330 G3 work with Woody?

Thanks in advance
Ric.

you can make your own driver disk and rescue-disk for debian woody if you have:
-another linuxbox to compile the kernel in
-2.4-kernel-source (ftp.kernel.org)
-megaide-source (http://www.stevehardy.info/ (ok. some of the "source" is binary))

http://www.debian.org/releases/stabl...chinfo.en.html

I got this working today with a 2.4.26 kernel.org-kernel on a ibm eserver xseries 305 with a LSI MegaRAID ATA 133-2.

Thanks, I did that already, first with a 2.4.18 to make the machine boot, then with a 2.4.26, and it worked fine. I should have withdrawn my post, but maybe there are others to see this solution.

It's quite essential to put the driver module on an initrd - compiling it into the kernel seems to be impossible, if I see it correct.

Yes. Initrd is the only way to make it boot from the megaide-device. That is if you don't manage to hack the megaide into the kernel somehow.

Withdraw your post? No, it is better to let others see they aren't alone with the problem. A followup with a success-story is better.

Right ;-) Me thinking too egoistic sometimes ...

Here is an addendum for Megaide with Debian Woody:

There are several kernel source packages available for 2.4.18. Megaide will compile against any of these, but will work only with 2.4.18-14.3
