I have been trying to get my HP Deskjet 932C running with Debian Sarge for over a month now, and tonight, for the first time, I am printing. I am posting this thread to help out anyone who might also be trying to get an HP printer working with their system and having trouble the way I was.
I searched all over the Web, searched forums, and even talked to a senior Unix administrator, and nothing seemed to work. Today, jumping from link to link, I found a tutorial on how to get HP printers working on most versions of Linux.
The web address is
http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/install.php .In step 1, find the instructions for your distribution, in my case, debian, and then follow the rest of the steps. In step 2, line #6, I ran into problems. I typed in "make", and it failed most of the way through, stating that it could not find libjpeg references and stopped. So I typed apt-get install libjpeg-dev (good guess), and it installed those files. I then typed "make" again, and it completed successfully. I then continued on with the final steps, and got a test page. I setup the printer in Gimp, and it also printed beautifully as well. My next step is to set it up under Open Office.
I hope this helps.
