I assume that is the cups service then. Please refer to your documentation to make sure. If you point your web browser to http://localhost:631, do you get the cups web configuration page?

You printer isn't listed in the LinuxPrinting.org database, but the 3920 and 3940 models are:

Check if they are similar enough to your printer to work.

I have been assured by members of the HPLIP mailing list and the Debian Printing mailing list that my printer is supported by HPLIP and should run under Debian.

http://localhost:631 give my the printer configuration page. The options displayed are Do Administration Tasks, Manage Printer Classes, On-Line Help, Manage Jobs, manage Printers and Download The Current CUPS Software.
