Howto make a fontend for apt

Hey
I want to make a new fontend for apt, but it's really hard to find some documentation for apt development. I don't want to make a new debian package I know how to to do that, and I know all the basic of how to use apt. What I want is to make a fontend like synaptic, but I have my special needs that I can't find in any existing fontends, so I will make my own one. So it will be nice with some documentation about the internal structure in apt, and if they is some api to apt that I can use, I think they is, because synaptic, use a api to apt, but I can't find any documentation for it. I also know that apt use dpkg as a backend, but again I missing documentation. They is properly documentation out on the world wide web for it, but I can't find it.
I hope somebody is able to help me.

regards

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish but there are other front ends for apt that may do what you need..

Aptitude is a nice front-end for dpkg, and actually superseded apt recently as the recommended frontend for dpkg in the new releases (etch+)..

There is also dselect which was superseded by apt.

Personally I never use synaptic, as anything I have ever needed to do I can do with aptitude, apt-get, or dpkg directly.

man aptitude

Take a look at Synaptic and Adept, and Update-Manager.

Rather than try to create a new frontend why not work on one of the existing packages?
