Howto give permission to hole directory
 

My problem is like this.
I mounted ntfs and copy all my digipics from windows to my user home folder as root. Now i dont have permission as user look those pics. As root in nautilus i can change permission in graphical frontend but im not able to change hole directory. How could i do that. Thanx

goto console, and as root use:

chown username:usergroup -R /path/to/directory

I'm surprised Nautilus doesn't allow changing a whole directory (recursive change)... Could it be that there's a menu choice or something else you've not noticed in Nautilus?

I don't use Nautilus anymore, but I do use Midnight Commander (program name "mc") and it allows any kind of changing you can think of (well, almost). It's a little non-intuitive at first but after you get used to it it's VERY helpful for file manipulation--in my opinion. You might want to give it a look in case you would like to use it in addition to Nautilus sometimes...

Check out Gentoo. In my opinion the best X filemanager there is. Very configurable though configuration can seem a little cryptic. Does recursive ChOwn and ChMod + lots and lots of other things. Uses two panes, and is very efficient when working with lots of files.

Gentoo can be installed with apt-get from Testing, maybe even from Stable.
