How to shut off streaming sound
 

I just learned how to stream sound from a favorite website. I did that in Opera by directing the output to /usr/bin/mplayer. The problem arises when I want to shut it off, since it's playing in the background it will go on even after exiting Opera itself. I tried to call up mplayer as a standalone, but it didn't help, so right now the only way is to close all tabs, close Opera and log out/log in. I was hoping for some advice as to shutting the sound off without that.

Also, does anyone know how to actually play anything in mplayer as standalone? Or where to get the codecs to make it happen?

You could always do: Ctrl & Esc this will bring up your Process Table. If you just want to list what you are running, look to the right where it says All Processes click it and select Own Processes now find the process you want to stop, highlight it, then click kill and confirm if asked.

As for playing stuff with MPlayer, you need the Win32-codecs pack. It's available on the MPlayer website.
