how to restart eth0??

I'm running Sarge on my notebook... and sometimes I switch between Wi-Fi and hardwired... is there a way--via GUI or command--to restart the network connection... I used to do this easily in Red Hat... and I'm sure there's a way to do it with debian but I can't find it.. I just have to reboot...

I want to be running debian.. plug in the network cable... and bring up my eth0 connection.. obtaining dhcp and whatnot..

If anyone has a solution let me know... Thanks!
