How to remove duplicated launcher on gnome panel menu?
I just upgraded my gnome from 2.8 to 2.10.2. However such an update results in a duplicated launcher for the screensaver in the Gnome panel->System menu-> Preferences.
Is there anything (e.g. Menu editor) for me to solve this ugly behavior? I tried smeg but I can't edit the System menu. (Or maybe I don't figure out how to use smeg properly).
Thank you for your attentions!

All the apps displayed in the different menus have their .desktop file to generate this entry. On my system the entry for the screen saver is:
/usr/share/applications/gnome-screensaver-properties.desktop
using slocate you could try to find which 2 entries represent this app on your system and delete one of them.

I usually remove read permissions of the launcher in /usr/share/applications.

Same here, the laucher has duplicated menus, mixed up with KDE menus and, all my custom made menus are gone. Nothing helps. Even tried removing the 'menu' package.

In Configuration Editor do the search for items you want to remove or rectify. After editing run
updatedb to update database of softwares and menus of your system
