The package apt-show-version also works

You could also use Synaptic.

Also, you could view the raw package list files:
Code:

$ cd /var/lib/dpkg/info/
$ *.list | less
a2ps.list
aalib-bin.list
aalib1.list
acroread-debian-files.list
acroread.list
adduser.list
afio.list
aiksaurus.list
alien.list
alsa-oss.list
alsaconf.list
amor.list
amule-utils.list
amule.list
apg.list
...

Helpful Hints:
By checking the date on a package's package.list file, you can tell when it was installed/upgraded. Also, by actually looking _in_ a given package.list file, you can see all the files that were installed by that package.

It is apt-show-versions.

Code:

>$ apt-cache search apt show version

LOL ...

Or:
Code:

dpkg --get-selections | grep install

That's kind of sloppy, because it will not print packages on "hold". Also, it will incorrectly print packages that have been removed, but have "install" in the package name.

Other than the negative aspects, I do have to give a few points for creativity. ;)
