How to fix dependance problem

Hi,
I have a problem to install both latex-beamer and lyx.

the reason is that each package creates the file beamer.layout, that is
if I installed lyx-common the file is created, and i I try to install latex-beamer I get error like this

E: /opt/etch/lyx-common_1.5.0~beta1-2_all.deb: trying to overwrite `/usr/share/lyx/layouts/beamer.layout', which is also in package latex-beamer

If I installed first latex-beamer, I'd get error at the installation of lyx, I installed them both I 'd get same problem too.

I've tried also to install one of them and manually remove beamer.layout from the directory and try to install the other. The problem is still there

I had the same problem with locales and tzdata which use one same file /usr/share/.....???

thanks for help
best regards
bela

Is there a reason you're gettin lyx-common from experimental?
Are you installing the packages by downloading with apt, or have you separately downloaded and are installing with dpkg -i?
If apt, post /etc/apt/sources.list.

apt-cache policy lyx-common
lyx-common:
Installed: (none)
Candidate: 1.4.3-3
Version table:
1.5.0~beta1-2 0
910 ftp://ftp.fi.debian.org experimental/main Packages
1.4.3-3 0
930 ftp://ftp.fi.debian.org testing/main Packages
990 ftp://ftp.fi.debian.org unstable/main Packages
1.3.4-2 0
700 ftp://ftp.fi.debian.org stable/main Packages

thanks for reply,
from experimental because the 1.5 is recent i found as rpm for other distro not for debian.

but the problem is not here since I had same problem when I tied to complete mepis with debian repository, problem with tzdata and locales wich contain the same file.
In that case how to solve it, or we consider this as bugs ??

thanks a lot
bela

Are you running Mepis? If so, you might want to post the question here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...splay.php?f=64

It is not a bug if you mix packages between distros and something doesn't work. If you know that the offending files are the same, you can install the second package with:
dpkg -i --force-all /var/cache/apt/archives/package_version.deb

But do ask on the Mepis forum section first.
