Question How to enable ACPI in Debian Sid

I have installed Debian Sarge, and upgraded to Sid on a Dell Latitude c640 Laptop. The problem I'm having is how to get ACPI or APM running without having to compile my own kernel. Either of these will work, as I really just want to be able to monitor the battery, (unless someone has gotten the suspend option working).

I am running the Debian supplied 2.6.7 kernel, and haven't really done any kernel config stuff yet. Thanks for any help.

Add acpi=on in the boot line and install the acpid-package, acpid will load the modules by itself.

e.g. (grub):
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.6-1-k7
root (hd0,4)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.6-1-k7 root=/dev/hda5 ro acpi=on vga=0x317
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.6-1-k7
savedefault
boot
