Question How to configure resolution

Hi, just set up debian with gnome but i cannot get the resolution set to 1024x768. I have went into the configuration file and can see some script which relates to the resolution being 1024x768. What can I do to implement this resolution on the monitor? Help!

I'm not sure about the tools you have in debian, but you could try to run something like: xf86config, xf86cfg, xorgconf, xorgcfg and set up X as you like.

Managed to log in as the superuser and have tried to reconfigure the xf86 config file by deleting the other screen resolutions. Now i'm trying to save it but its not letting me do this! How do i get round this?

you shouldn't have any problem saving the file if you're root.
what is the error you get?

As root, run

#dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

Answer the questions they ask, and when it comes to resolution, select 1024 x 768 with your spacebar. Also make sure you deselct any resolutions you do not want. Restart xserver or log off and log back on and your new resolution should be set.

Good Luck
