How to auto mount USB drives in terminal

I would like to auto mount any USB drives plugged in in the command line/ non-x environment.

eg first usb device (/dev/sda1) mounts as /mnt/usb0, second as /mnt/usb1, etc etc.

Ok.. i'm having an issue with apt-get returning
Code:

The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
I'm running that as root. I'm pretty sure it will be a missing module; but how do i diagnose which one??
