How to add an additonal Network Card

I am new to debian, I like it better on boxes that I am not using a graphical front-end to, in fact, normally I won't even have a monitor attached to it.
I would like to use the box as a sniffer, probablly with Snort on it - MySQL, ACID, combo. I need some help on setting up the second network card, eth1 and making sure it works correctly.

Thanks in advance

The config-file you need is /etc/network/interfaces. It also has a manual (man interfaces). After you have made changes to your config you can bring up and down the networkdevices with the commands ifup and ifdown.
