Question How many CDs Needed to Start Debian?

I want to try out Debian by downloading and installing the CD isos. there are 7 of them. I want to know if it is possible to downloaded a few of them to start and the rest later on .

You can do an install without any cd's if you are going to do a net install. If not then the first two cd's will give you most of what you want.

Debian is arranged so the most common/required packages are on cd1, the less common the packages the bigger the cd number.

I really don't recall what is on which cd. If you get the first three in the set you will have more than you need.

If you install Knoppix to the HDD, you only need one CD

Sarge unofficial CDs

Hi!
Has anyone tried the unofficial Sarge CD -1 ISO? Does it work? Is it bootable and installable? What are the software on it? Does it have zope and postgresql for example?

Okay I already did a debian install using the first cd. It was not difficult as some had written in this forum but.....

1. my winmodem won't work.drivers won't compile(I don't know why I get 'permission denied' while trying compile as root)
2. no sound

I think I'll stick with knoppix for a while. No time for tweaking .
