[SOLVED] How long has RAID1 been available in Debian?

I want to setup a computer with RAID1, so that reading the drive will be faster, and to protect against drive failure. I do not want to introduce feature that could potentially lead to data loss, due to instability. I use the stable version of Debian, but still find that sometimes it includes features that are new or unstable. Has RAID1 been a feature of Debian for a long time or is this something that is fairly new and could use more testing?

raid as implemented in mdadm has been in Debian for a _very_ long time...
