Angry Here is an easy Question! Permissions and Samba!

I am running Debian 3.1 with the 2.4.27-i386 Kernel. I have a file server that people on a network access. I am using samba to coordinate between the XP clients and the Debian linux server. My smb.conf file looks like this for the file sharing portion. ( I will display the whole thing if asked).

Code:
[Network Data]
comment = Data
path = /home/network
public = no
valid users = bob billy barbara betty
writable = yes
printable = no
create mask = 0765
I have created the users: bob, billy, barbara and betty. I have entered them into the 'users' group. I have then added each of them to the respective groups; bob is a member of bob's group, users group, billy's group, barbara's group and betty's group. I used the Users and Groups tool in Gnome.

My problem is that each time bob creates a file, betty cannot move or edit the file! I need them all to be able to delete, edit, rename etc. eachothers files! How do I do this? Should I just have my XP clients log on using one user name and password under samba and forget the whole thing?

I've accomplished what you are trying to do. My approach was to create a new group for samba (i called mine: hmnetw for 'home network), then add the appropriate users to that group. Then the shared directory should be assigned to the new group, ala:

chown staff:hmnetw /home/samba

Here's my smb.conf

[common]
comment = Network Common Share
path = /home/samba
writable = yes
valid users = @hmnetw
force group = hmnetw
force create mode = 0664
force directory mode = 0775
