Help installing debian on a G3

I tried installing debian on a G3 and got through the install with no errors at all, however after doing so I rebooted and got a screen that asked me to press c for booting a cd or l for booting gnu/linux, when I pressed l a folder appeared in the middle of the screen, the folder just flashes between a question mark then the two-face mac logo and I never leave the screen

I'm on an IDE hard drive and I manually set the jumper to master. Also debian installed Yaboot so I guess that makes it a newworld mac.

never mind, it was an incorectly set hard drive jumper, it had be set across both master and slave on the top (the shiny side is the top imo).
