help getting smb printer to work

Hi,

I just installed Debian etch and I cannot get my smb printer to work. I have installed cups and the foomatic stuff and samba and smbclient and gnome-vlume-manager.

If I go to Desktop/Administration/Printing and click add printer....i can add the printer, it sees the smb printer but when I hit apply, the printer doesn't show up.

Any ideas?

Have you checked /var/log/cups/* ?

There are also a config option where you can adjust the amount of information which will be logged.

What printer model and what connection is it using? You have setup the printer in windows and its network for sharing the printer over network and then using samba client in linux to print to network printer in windows?
This may help [url]http://thegoldenear/toolbox/unices/. The etch desktop setup section covers setting up a printer and discusses samba and samba client setup. there is also a guide for printer server setup. Enjoy your debian!
