GUI default in Debian 3.

Is there a default GUI or command to load a GUI in Debian 3.1? I thought I saw a linux26 from the command line, is that a viable command for a GUI.

Just trying this out and don't want to break it right away.

Thanks,

Chris

You have XFree86, the X server installed and configured?

Usually, the GUI started by kdm (for KDE) or gdm (for Gnome) after boot and gives you a graphical login. If you want to start KDE manually after you login you can create a .xinitrc file with the line "exec startkde" in it. Then run the command "startx" from the shell prompt.

Hope that is some help,

Jim

Yes thank you. The install was hanging before the kernel finished and I had no options that I could see.

The install finally worked after I disassembled the the CD drive and cleaned it. The granite dust out here gets into everything.
