Grub problem : not found or not a block device

Hi,

I did a cross install cause I wanted to install debian on my sata disk, problem was that ich6 chipset was not supported by woody r.03...

SO I installed kernel 2.6.10, did a cross install.

my /dev/sda is the disk were I installed debian on (of course with a new kernel 2.6.10)

When I boot it using LILO it works fine... So afterwards I installed grub tried to config it and I get following error :

: not found or not a block device

I checked my device map, it was ok as far as I could see (bottom), I checked my menu.lst and changed all kopt and other stuff to correct values /dev/sda1 and root hd1,0 .... no go , still same error when I try to install grub

can somebody help me out plz ?

I'm running debian r.03 woody kernel 2.6.10

disk setup :

/dev/hda ATA maxtor disk

/dev/sda SATA maxtor disk

/dev/sdb SATA maxtor disk

my device.map :
(hd0) /dev/hda
(hd1) /dev/sda
(hd2) /dev/sdb

had to add bios=0x80 to lilo to get it work, cause it didn't work out with lilo !!!

the 0x80 says to linux to first take (in my case /dev/sda) as first boot device

now I have to find a solution to get it work with grub
