GRUB LILO Boot loader fails

Dear Sir,
In the network installation of Debian 3.1r3 i386 (by Official businesscard images for the stable release size 40 MB), I got installation failed for GRUB boot loader as well as for LILO. Then it asks whether you would like to skip it, I skipped that part. Finally it completes the installation. Next when I boot OS, it says Error loading operating system.

Please help what should I do? I am totally new to linux.

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to Linuxquestions

First thing is that you need to install the bootloader that is the part that loads the linux so you can use it. I'm not 100% sure but I think you should be able to just boot the machine from installation CD and then skip the other parts and go back to install bootloader section and install it. If it still gives errors, then you could tell us about it, the precise message so we could aid you better.
