Grub ..changing default back ground image??
I installed Grub 2 and now Im trying to figure out how to change the default image.I installed start-up manager but it doesnt have the option to change apperance. It just has a boot options and andvance tab.
Its the latest verersion from lenny repo.Dont know why its missing all the other options.I tried to change image in /boot/grub with another image and renamed it moreblue-orbit-grub.png..But it takes for ever for grub to start..almost a good 30 seconds vs the 2-3 seconds or so with default image.Theres a grub folder in /usr/share/image with back grounds but Im not sure how to get it to use them.So how do I change defaul image correctly??so it doesnt take so long for grub to start up? |
Shouldn't you compress the image into a .gzipped archive?
I. e. on my FC6 system, I can change the grub background by replacing /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz with another xpm that is 640x480 in size and gzipped manually after being saved as .xpm... Your delay might be because your image is not compressed? Thou 30 seconds sounds a mite too long - you might have other problems as well...? |
Well the existing image in /boot/grub is a png..Its not compressed or anything..Its just a 640x480 png image.I went back into synaptic and reinstalled grub 2 and it replaced the pic with original and now it boots up normal.so it is the pic that causes the 20-30 second delay..Not sure why..
