Cool Greatest Debian Rescue CD Part 1-

Ha!

OK, I got 2 rc1's uploaded and ready to go!
I call them rc1's as I have much work to do in configuring all the desktops
everything works as I know..

2 iso's
1 has default e17 Desktop
1 has default Iron Maiden Trooper fluxbox Desktop

First, I'm gonna give info on them
note that both iso's are the exact same, only difference
being that one goes to e17 at bootup, troopers goes to fluxbox

Basics:

Build-
Debian Live i386 with Debian Live's default Lenny
kernels
2.6.26-2-486
2.6.26-2-686

all pkgs are current and upgraded as of today-

originally built from the Debian Live Standard (no X) iso
made by Live-Magic.

Everything "Debian Live" has been retained-
default user is "user", password "live"
no root password
admin/sudo privy's for "user", as with Ubuntu

Please note this was not built using Remastersys
although I did install Remastersys as Remastersys has a nice
HDD Installer, which no Debian Live has..

OK, lets get into the meat of it shall we?
Cause not only is this perhaps the Greatest Debian Rescue CD
its also probably one of the Greatest Linux LiveCD's ever made!

LOL
I know their Guru's for real Trooper
I cant even get thru the live-helper stuff
I'm not even a coder dude

all honors must go to the Debian Live/Debian Live-Magic makers
and remastersys
and all you guys here also helped make it too you know

all I did was add stuff to the existing template

Debian rocks huh?

If'n you wanna remaster this one its quite easy
and all tools to remaster the cd in many ways are already onboard too
xnest
unetbootin
remastersys
syslinux
grub
squashfs-tools
etc

Well,it's finished downloading and the md5sum checks out:

Code:
ade@Pc1:~/Downloads$ md5sum GDR-CD-Trooper-i386.iso
3d0ce2bc40b712c52be2f2b2467d70dc GDR-CD-Trooper-i386.iso
I'll burn it to disc and see how it goes.

You could do:

Code:
cat /proc/cpuinfo
This will show the processor make and model.
I'd then check this info on the manufacturers website.

Here's an example from mine:

Code:
ade@Pc1:~$ cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor	: 0
vendor_id	: AuthenticAMD
cpu family	: 15
model : 67
model name	: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
stepping	: 2
cpu MHz : 2611.956
cache size	: 512 KB
physical id	: 0
siblings	: 2
core id : 0
cpu cores	: 2

Thanks Repo

when I did a debian net install it installed a 686 setup
so I assume its that yes?

OK
gotta go into known BUGS (their small)

1) usplash may break up at boot a little

2) fluxbox desktop loads slow...I dont know why? maybe xcompmgr setting?

3) fluxbox and other menus give irratating error when opening a terminal app like nano, recover, etc
something about invalid option "T" and then you clikc OK and the term opens
update-menus and ulubione along with the hag scripts create the system fluxbox menu
I tried to get this solved and only broke the system several times

4) most of the rescue stuff has to be run thru terminal and no gui?
yes, apps like testdisk, fsarchiver( use sudo /usr/sbin/fsarchiver ), magicrescue, ddrescue, etc
must run in terminal as no gui

5) not all apps show up on all menus, like remastersys, live-magic, unetbbotin, etc
again this is a function of the Debian menu system and my ignorance of it

look for apps in /usr/bin and /usr/sbin also check out /etc

6) permissions are twiggy as I'm no bash or linux guru
basically, most apps will open as root with no password
especially from the fluxbox root and magic menu
be warned you will be root when using these menus and any admin menus
as visudo, etc was setup to give "user" full no-password authority!

things like GDM setup, Clam gui,etc will run as root probably

I'll think of some more stuff in a minute

OH
when I installed to hd took like 5min
I then immeidietly did remastersys-backup and cut a nice cd
