Gnome sounds not working
Hi there everyone,
I am new to linux but it is a debian (lenny) question I hope its in the right section. After being a slave to windows I decided to try linux again ubuntu and thouyght it was really nice so then I fudged the install and thought I would see what was debian like, I really like the dist, had the black screen issue at first but installed the nivida drivers after a few hours searching.
so I have got a pretty sweet setup going on with this lenny but while I spent 3hrs getting sound to work for ET now gnome sounds dont work they never did, in the sound options I can hear also and oso test sounds but when I try ESD I get
"audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not establish connection to sound server"
I followed a few guides from what I can gather and installed some libs but really needs some expert advice here
if anyone can help me out would me appreciated thanks
forgot to say what OS I am on
Debian (lenny)
update
I installed the ESD library libesd0 and libesdalso ahd to be removed I now got sound in gnome got sound on you tube but in the sound prefs I get ESD sound test ok OSS says
audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=music: Could not open audio device for playback. Device is being used by another application.
Alsa test sounds ok lost sound in enemy territory again lol
