gnome-power-manager Suspend / Hibernate problem
 

Hi,

I am running Lenny on an Eee PC, and am experiencing problems with gnome-power-manager (gpm).

If I click either Suspend or Hibernate in the shutdown dialogue, or close the lid while on battery power, I get nothing other than several rapid beeps. I've checked system logs (/var/log/messages, /var/log/syslog), and the only entry logged for this is:

This is in contrast to suspending on a Dell machine running Ubuntu 8.04, where dozens of lines are logged when suspend is invoked. I tried attaching an strace to the gpm process, but couldn't see anything that was obviously significantly different from on the Ubuntu machine, and the version of gpm is the same on both (2.22.1). I can see no acpi errors logged, and all the tests I've run on acpi have been successful.

What makes me think that this is not a problem related to the Eee itself is that the system does suspend successfully if I invoke sudo pm-suspend.

I have tried Googling, and while I found a number of problems reported with gpm, none of them sounded similar to the one I am experiencing. Any suggestions?

Edited to add:
Looking through the lists of packages in Synaptic, I did notice a package "eeepc-acpi-scripts" which replaces acpi-support. However, I get exactly the same result from gpm after installing this.

Hello @all,

I have exactly the same issue on Thinkpad T43p. When I press Fn+F4, my notebook goes to sleep. When I use PowerManager from GNOME, the screen gets dark and becomes locked, the speaker beeps frequently and I must enter my password to come back.

I know, that ACPI-stuff is configured properly, I use it from time to time. So, there is an issue with PowerManager of GNOME...
