Gnome - open with other application problem
 

I am running debian testing and I used to be able to right click on any file using gnome and click open with other application. This would present a list of applications to choose from even if they were not related to the program. Now when I click on any file and click open with other application the list is empty. I am wondering if anyone knows how to fix this. I have searched and all similar threads never fix the problem or provide answers. I have other Debian testing machines some have the same problem and some don't.

do you mean you have other debian that are in the 'testing (sarge) phase'.. or you 'test' other machs with deb?

it sounds like there have been partial upgrades or other major changes to your machines (ie. software installs or upgrades) which may have corrupted some config files.

i'd check out the setting on the ones that are broke, against one that is 'ok'.

gnome has a plethora of config switches for these items.
