Gnome 2.6 on Debian testing/Sid

recently upgraded from GNOME 2.4 to 2.6 and find that GEDIT and GNUMERIC do not funtion properly....Gedit seems to start and closed immediately whereas GNUMERIC give a premature shutdown message....both functioned properly under GNOME 2.4...any ideas where to begin?

Hi Tonya,

Same problem with me (I'm using testing): I think it's the gnome 2.4/2.6 mix. There is also some 2.4 stuff left in unstable I've seen. Hope for you they will soon be updated :).

My desktop is totally messed up, the gnome-applets were upgraded: most of my applets don't work now: I've switched to Enlightenment temporarily (I already had it installed) cause gnome is just one big mess.

I hope this will be over soon...

I don't want to sound like an alternative healer, but: it will probably get worse before it's over ;).

Hi Tonya,

I've solved the problem for myself: I added unstable and experimental to my apt-sources and upgraded my gnome-packages. It was a bit of a hassle, and didn't work perfectly immediately (configuration a bit messed up) but now I've got a full gnome 2.6 working! Gedit works again and all the other programs too. I think it's worth trying... The experimental source is for me:

deb http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/ experimental main

Another translation for you: "Wie geen vreemde talen kent, weet niks van zijn eigen."

What's wrong with mac? ;)

Greetings,

Corien
