Apparently, Gnome 2.14 is in Unstable, and is making its way into testing. Check out www.backports.org to see if there is a sarge backport yet.

No, it isn't there yet. Is it possible to build it from source? What do I need to do that?

gnome 2.14 is slowly entering the testing, if you look at a lot of thre gnome packages they are at 2.14. I would say over half of the gnome packages are for 2.14, it wont be long before 2.14 is fully in testing. Just keep doing a dist-upgrade and you will slowly get gnome upgraded to a complete 2.14 release.
