Gnewsense installation

Hi all,

I've installed debian on my chromebook, but I would like to try installing Gnewsense. From what I understand, Gnewsense is very similar to Debian in most respects, the only difference is that there is absolutely no proprietary blobs anywhere. Now the issue that I'm having is that it's trying to get info from the CD, but my issue is, there isn't a CD, I'm booting from a flash drive, I was just wondering if this is a bug within an older version of the Debian installer, and was hoping there was some work around.

Thanks,

Will

Hi...

In case you haven't already, take a look at the instructions here and see if they help.

Also, does your chromebook use an i386 (32 bit) or 64 bit Intel or AMD processor?

Regards...

I actually didn't even know that page existed, I haven't had an issue with booting/installing from usb before with Gnewsense, so I guess it just surprised me when it didn't work. My chromebook has a 64-bit baytrail processor.

That worked almost perfectly, except now the only partitions that the installer sees are on the flash drive which is interesting.

So when you are running Gnewsense live, does it see your hard drive at all? Here are some terminal commands to use in case there isn't a GUI based utility.

So from the point of view of the terminal and the file system the internal drive doesn't exist. Also, when I tried just using the text based installer I had the issue that I had before with the computer asking for a cd drive.

Hi...

Well, if you've installed Debian to your hard drive and you're still able to run it, then it's most likely not a issue with the drive. If so, I'm not sure what to make of that....

Apart from checking your hard drive for errors anyway (with a utility from the manufacturer of the drive,) or talking with the folks over at gNewSense, I'm not sure what else to recommend.

Regards...
