Gnash and Klash are in Sid ...and AMD64 OpenOffice.org

I see that both gnash and klash (open source Flash replacements) are now in Sid for both i386 and AMD64. I tried gnash a while back from an experimental repository and it crashed my browser. Hopefully this means they're close to ready for prime-time. Working in 32-bit tonight, but tomorrow, I'll give gnash another try on the 64-bit system.

This is good news. Will the websites that use Flash actually recognize these?

Seem to work reasonably well.

Gnash is a free Flash movie player, which works either standalone, or as
plugin for Firefox/Mozilla or Konqueror. Currently It is in a alpha state.
The plugins are under heavy development at this time.

Gnash supports the majority of Flash opcodes up to SWF version 7, and
a wide sampling of ActionScript classes for SWF version 8.5. All the
core ones are implemented, and many of the newer ones work, but may be
missing some of their methods.

Included in the Gnash is an XML based messaging system, as specified in
the Flash specification. This lets a flash movie communicate over a TCP/IP
socket, and parse the incoming XML message. This lets a movie be a remote
control for other devices or applications.

This package includes the standalone GTK+-based OpenGL player.

OK. I installed gnash and the mozilla-gnash-plugin on my AMD64. Didn't want to mess with it on the 32-bit because the proprietary plugin works fine.

It almost works on the 64-bit. It loads and plays video on some Flash movies. I didn't find any that played the sound. On some Flash movies, it totally ate up my cpu and memory, but it never crashed the browser (Firefox). A major improvement over no Flash at all for AMD64. I'll be watching closely for any updates and installing them immediately.

Perhaps more importantly, while looking around in the AMD64 Sid repo, I discovered that OpenOffice.org is in there. I have been using the "experimental version for some time with no problems, but I immediately installed the Sid version over it. For some reason the "openoffice.org-l10n-en-us" is still missing, and the installation complained about that but completed anyway, and seems to work. My assumption is that I'll be able to get that piece very very soon.

I'm still not sure what the deal is with the quoted package, but I think maybe it's part of openoffice.org-core.

At any rate, there is already an update in Sid. I installed the new version and it did not complain about that missing package, even tho it does not exist separately on Sid.
