getting my devs to be mounted automatically
 

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is really a debian specific question or not, but I figure there's a good chance it is.
I'm running debian (duh!) sarge, with KDE. What I would like to accomplish is having my hard drives mounted automagically like knoppix. In knoppix once it boots up into the the window manager (kde, right?) there's icons (symbolic links?) on the desktop for all of the hard drives / CD-roms / USB drivers / Etc. Then you can right clik on them and mount, and then change read/write options as necessary.

So I thought I should use autofs to accomplish this, and I started looking for a howto on setting this up. But that was talking about network systems, and that's not what I want. So now I'm confused. Can someone point me in the right direction for a fairly inexpirenced linux user to get this set up? (I'm not a compliet dummy, I'm used to command line stuff, and I've complied sutff from source before - as well as using package managers... But if you tell me to go edit a config file and don't explain how I'm gonna get frustraited. )

I use gnome-applets for my quick drive mounting needs.. apt-get install gnome-applets

then you need to edit your /etc/fstab file to add mount points for and removabel drives.. (USB key, CF Card reader, etc.. ) but this will give you a quick way to mount an unmount CDROMs, and such.

After you install gnome applets right click on the panel at the top of the screen and select + add to panel

Select Disk Mounter

it should give you a applet showing you floppy drive and CDROM drives, which you can mount by clicking on the appropriate button and selecting Mount or Unmount as the case may be. I actually liek this on the panel menu instead of on the desktop where it would behidden behind all my open programs..

gheck ou tthe other applets too, the weather thing is pretty neat, and well theres just abunch of slick little apps in there..
