Getting Internet to work in Debian

Ok, I'm so close to getting my dial up internet working I can feel it. kppp dials, but there is 1 thing that goes wrong.

After the number is dialed by kppp, a window comes up that says this:
The pppd daemon died unexpectedly!
Exit Status: 1

This is what I did so far,
1. I downloaded the modem driver from linuxant.com. It was a .deb package.
2. I installed the package and it works (I think).
3. Kppp wouldn't work, so I added myself to the dip group by editing /etc/groups.
4. I ran kppp and an error message came up about /etc/resolv.conf not being there.
5. I added that file and made it blank and made the permissions 0777.
6. I ran kppp and made an internet accout.
7. I clicked the connect button and everything seemed fine. It dialed every single number, but then right when you would expect it to be connected the error message above this numbering list came up.

This modem has worked before with Slackware 10 using the same driver.
I'm using Debian Sarge by the way.

Help is greatly appreciated.
Thankxs :D

I have never tried to configure dial up connections but while you're waiting for better informed advices there's probably no harm in giving Debian's own tool pppconfig a try.

I'm posting this with debian, so the internet works!
I tried pppconfig like Dead Parrot said, but kppp still had the same issure. So, I installed wvdail and got it running after changing the permissions of /etc/wvdial.conf.

My gratitudes are gracious :)
