[solved] Getting Aureal AU8820 sound card working...
 
I'm running Debian 'Sarge' with 2.6.8-2-k7 kernel.

This is what I did so far:

lspci | grep audio

Revealed as Aureal Vortex1

modconf

Found AU8820 module and installed it.

I logged out and logged in again with no success.

I played mp3 songs with no sound.

Am I missing something?

tried alsamixer ? pcm muted ?

Install/run gnome-alsamixer did the trick, but why would it be on mute by default is beyond me?
