getting and installing agpgart
Okay, I've got X Windows 4.4.0 installed on my Debian machine with a working config file, but I need agpgart to make X run. the only resource I could find said that I need to re-compile the Linux kernel and frankly, I'm not comfterable doing that. Help!

also which kernel..;) |
with modconf
#modconf go down the list and choose the module for 'agp', open it, install agpgart, get out, reboot. |
I don't know the make or model of my video card but I can tell you I'm using Woody stable 2.2
modconf did not have an agp option. |
No kernel/drivers/char/agp ? should be the fifth or sixth from the top.

ok, it should be in 2.4, u are using 2.2, that's why, you are going to have to reinstall or install a 2.4 kernel-image or compile a fresh 2.4 kernel.
