getting and installing agpgart

Okay, I've got X Windows 4.4.0 installed on my Debian machine with a working config file, but I need agpgart to make X run. the only resource I could find said that I need to re-compile the Linux kernel and frankly, I'm not comfterable doing that. Help!

it would help to know which video card you have and what distro you using...stable, testing or unstable
also which kernel..;)

with modconf

#modconf

go down the list and choose the module for 'agp', open it, install agpgart, get out, reboot.

I don't know the make or model of my video card but I can tell you I'm using Woody stable 2.2

modconf did not have an agp option.

No kernel/drivers/char/agp ? should be the fifth or sixth from the top.

ok, it should be in 2.4, u are using 2.2, that's why, you are going to have to reinstall or install a 2.4 kernel-image or compile a fresh 2.4 kernel.
