Gentoo And Debian

Hey all, first off, I have used both Debian and Gentoo, I like them both. My question is this.... When it comes down to it, the only reason gentoo is more optimized then debian is because you can set which package is downloaded for which CPU. Is that the only differnce? I am just curious about performence hehe

Since you compile stuff on your own with gentoo, you can optimize everything for the type of processor you have whereas Debian packages are already compiled to the lowest common denomenator (i386), so there are some speed benefits due to the optimizations, but it takes debian like 5 minutes to install GNOME and Gentoo an entire day
