I'm attempting to setup a Debian gateway/router, using webmin as a web interface to connect and control the machine. Webmin is installed with Virtualmin, but I'm only using the Webmin portion.
The distro is Debian Squeeze
There are two NIC: eth0 and eth1
eth0 plugs into my current network powered by a standard router with an ip 192.168.128.124
eth1 is plugged directly into a laptop for testing.
eth0 = public/external
eth1 = private/internal
The trouble I'm having, is after setting everything up, packets are not being forwarded through the machine. For this stage in testing I have all IPtables settings set to accept everything.
I have ipv4 forwarding enabled in /etc/sysctl.conf
Code:
net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
And DHCP server is setup and working using ip 192.168.43.1 on eth1 (subnet 255.255.255.0)
when I try a trace-route to 8.8.8.8 from the laptop, it identifies google-public-dns-a.google.com but cannot trace past the linux box. Can't even connect to my current router from the laptop.
But from the debian box itself I can connect to everything just fine
Bind DNS is installed but I haven't touched the configuration
I did check this guide:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=926001
but according to everything there this should be working.
Any ideas?
