Smile GARNOME or jhbuild

Hello,
I am going to try building GNOME-2.17.x.I think the tools available are GARNOME and jhbuild.
Now I dont know what dependencies are needed to be installed.
I ran an apt-pinned Debian Sid+Experimental.

Also do we need to edit any config in the GARNOME/jhbuild for the GNOME to be cleanly installed. Also I dont want all those softwares in GNOME.

Also am curious,how/which way Debian ppl builds GNOME pkgs,do they uses GARNOME or jhbuild.
